CD means cluster of differentiation. It is a cell surface receptor that help in  identification of cell type and its stage of differentiation. CD4 is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface T cells which provide binding site for HIV.  CD4 is also found on the surface of  monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells.
