Thankyou Silent Gene.  Has there been any updates regarding prevalence rates in “general populations” of Nepal? and also does blood donors represent general population as sample in any blood borne infections?

Generally, risk groups are selected for the studies. The risk of transmission from risk groups to general population has profound importance from public health point of view. You may need to put a bit of effort on literature review. I am not really in to Hepatitis studies at present. So good luck.

I don’t think blood donors are adequate enough to represent the whole population.  Not all fit in for blood donations for instance.

Nepal has the lowest prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Asia, with an HBsAg carrier rate of 0.9%. The HBsAg prevalence among pregnant women in Nepal is low (0.5%) and none of those examined were HBeAg positive. The highest prevalence of HBsAg was found in the 6-15 years age group. The low prevalence of this infection in the country was due to an absence of significant vertical transmission and its predominant spread by horizontal transmission among the adolescent age group.
